Kekkilä-BVB centralized its Central European growing media production to the Netherlands and sold the Georgsdorf site to Agricon Group

In May, Kekkilä-BVB initiated consultation and information processes in Hardenberg, The Netherlands, and Georgsdorf, Germany, with the goal of optimizing fixed gardening and growing media production costs in Central Europe. Following these consultations, the company transferred the production volumes from Hardenberg and Georgsdorf to its other production sites in the Netherlands. In November, Agricon Group acquired the Georgsdorf site.

To improve efficiency, Kekkilä-BVB reorganized its Central European production. Gardening production was moved from the Hardenberg site to the Drachten site in the Netherlands while growing media production was transferred from the Georgsdorf site in Germany to Kekkilä-BVB’s other production sites in the Netherlands. These changes affected 43 positions in total.

Kekkilä-BVB continues to serve German customers despite the reorganization

After concluding the information process, Kekkilä-BVB received an initial offer from a family-owned Belgian Agricon Group to buy the Georgsdorf site. After negotiations, a sales agreement between both parties was signed on 15 November 2024.

“Although Kekkilä-BVB has discontinued growing media production in Germany, we will continue our sales, customer service, deliveries and supporting operations to our German customers. The products will be delivered from the Netherlands or through our German Papenburg harbour, which will continue to operate normally. Our nearest production facility in Grubbenvorst, the Netherlands, is less than 10 kilometres from the German border,” says Jarmo Santala, Senior Vice President, Business Area Central Europe, Kekkilä-BVB.
