Neova Group’s year 2024: Aiming to grow more with less
Neova Group’s Annual Report 2024 has been published. The Group’s Sustainability Statement is part of the Annual Report.
Neova Group’s businesses play a key role in solving several global challenges: securing clean and safe food, healthy soil, clean water and air, and mitigating the adverse effects of climate change.
The importance of renewable raw materials is growing
Kekkilä-BVB’s strategic goal is to increase the share of renewable and recycled raw materials in growing media. The company is researching the suitability of reed canary grass, sphagnum moss and miscanthus as raw materials for growing media, among other things.
The share of renewable and recycled raw materials in Kekkilä-BVB’s own production was 1.40 million cubic meters. The goal is for Kekkilä-BVB to double the amount of renewable and recycled raw materials used in its own production by 2027 compared to 2021.
Sustainable solutions for a wide range of needs
Neova Terra is moving from an energy company to a processor of high-value-added products needed by society.
The company has launched NeoCoreTM, a biostimulant that increases plant nutrient uptake and root biomass and improves soil health. In more than 60 cultivation trials in different countries, yields have increased by an average of 10 per cent, depending on the plant species, and in blueberries by as much as 24 per cent.
In 2024, Neova Terra also launched its first peat-based animal feed product in cooperation with Hankkija Oy, part of the Danish Agro Group. The primary purpose of Prohum’s product is pig feed and the use of enrichment materials. Studies show that peat supports animal welfare and improves their growth.
In addition, Neova signed its first cooperation agreement with the Swedish company Rabbalshede Kraft AB for the development of nine solar and wind farms in old peat production areas across Finland. Neova has received building permits for its first two solar power projects. The solar power plants are to be built in Lappajärvi and Heinola.
“For years, we have been transparent about our financial performance and progress on the sustainability roadmap. We engage in active stakeholder dialogue and regularly consult customers, researchers and various authorities. The events of 2024 have highlighted the need for such transparency, and we will continue our fact-based dialogue with our stakeholders. The 2024 Sustainability Statement is one example of our commitment,” says Susanna Inkinen, Chief Sustainability Officer at Neova Group.
